The compound is stable in air but decomposes at high temperatures. 3-Methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole-5-thiol is commonly used as a high energy density material with high sulfur content. It is also used as a stabilizer and functionalization reagent on the surface of colloidal gold nanoparticles.
