4-Diazodiphenylamine sulfate is an organic solid with a white or yellowish color. It is insoluble in water at room temperature, but soluble in organic solvents such as ether, chloroform and benzene. 4-Diazodiphenylamine sulfate can undergo a diazotization reaction in which the diazo group (-N≡N) reacts with the amino group (-NH2) on the benzene ring to form the corresponding diazo compound. This reaction usually takes place under acidic conditions. The resulting diazo compound is usually very unstable and can continue to undergo a series of reactions, such as cyclization and halogenation.
