Sodium 2-diazo-1-naphthol-5-sulfonate is a colorless crystal or white granule. It is soluble in water and exhibits weak acidity in aqueous solution. It is a hydrophilic compound that absorbs moisture and reacts with carbon dioxide in the air. At high temperatures (about 150oC) it decomposes into sulfur dioxide and sodium sulfite. Sodium 2-diazo-1-naphthol-5-sulfonate has a wide range of applications in many industrial and chemical fields. It is commonly used as a bleaching agent, antioxidant and fungicide.
