2,6-Di-tert-butylpyridine is a colorless liquid. It is insoluble in water and soluble in ethanol, acetone and hexane. In the gas phase, it is strongly basic, but in solution it is weakly basic, due to solvation space hindrance. 2,6-Di-tert-butylpyridine can be used as a pyridine organophile, which can be used to prepare polymers with n-type nitrogen oxide side groups.
