1,4-Cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid (also known as adipic acid or trans anhydride acid) is an organic compound. It has low volatility and low toxicity at room temperature and pressure. The cis-trans mixture is white crystal, soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone and chloroform. The solubility is around 10% and the melting point is 164~167oC. The trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid is white phosphorus columnar Chemicalbook crystals, solubility in water is smaller than the cis, melting point is greater than 300oC. Cis-1,4-Cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid is white leaf crystal, with considerable solubility in water, melting point 170~171oC.
1,4-Cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid is mainly used as a raw material for softeners. It is widely used in the synthesis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyester fibers, coatings, resins and high performance polymers.
1,4-Cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid is also used in the preparation of ester solvents, as a catalyst for organic synthesis and as a high performance lubricant.
